The Newham Council meeting on 9 October 2025 included discussion of gambling regulation, temporary accommodation safeguarding, and updates from scrutiny committees. The council approved the appointment of three co-opted members to the Standards Committee, and also received updates on the Overview and Scrutiny Committee's work programme.

Health and Wellbeing Board - Wednesday 8th October 2025 6.30 p.m.

The Newham Health and Wellbeing Board met to discuss the NHS 10-year plan, neighbourhood working, health initiatives, and food security in the borough. The board approved the 50 Steps 24/25 Annual Report, committing to continued partnership working and prioritising action on key outcomes. They also discussed a workshop to reshape the board's membership and agenda.

Overview and Scrutiny Committee - Tuesday 7th October 2025 7.30 p.m.

The Overview and Scrutiny Committee convened to discuss a call-in of a Cabinet decision regarding the capital fit out of Manor Park Gym. The committee ultimately decided to refer the decision back to the Cabinet for reconsideration, citing concerns about the robustness of financial appraisals and the exploration of alternative funding options.

Local Development Committee - Monday 6th October 2025 6.30 p.m.

The Local Development Committee of Newham Council met on 6 October 2025. During the meeting, attendees were scheduled to discuss a planning application relating to 269 High Street South, and to elect a vice-chair. The committee was also expected to confirm the minutes of a previous meeting.

Crime, Environment and Transport Scrutiny Commission - Wednesday 24th September 2025 7.00 p.m.

The Crime, Environment and Transport Scrutiny Commission met to discuss food waste collection, the East London Waste Authority (ELWA) contract re-procurement, and the council's parking strategy. The commission agreed to a number of recommendations, including requesting a report from the Section 151 Officer[^1] regarding spending decisions related to food waste collection, and requesting a budget proposal from the Housing Revenue Account (HRA) to reconfigure bin stores in council housing. The commission also voted to approve the work programme for the next municipal year, with one objection noted.
