Young People, Learning and Employment Policy and Scrutiny Committee - Tuesday 16th September, 2025 6.30 pm
The Young People, Learning and Employment Policy and Scrutiny Committee met to discuss supported internships and the transformation of services for children with disabilities. Councillors reviewed how the council attracts applicants and employers to supported internships and employment opportunities. The committee also scrutinised the proposals to transform services for children with disabilities.
Council - Wednesday 10th September, 2025 7.00 pm
The City of Westminster Council met on 10 September 2025, and began by electing Councillor Hamza Taouzzale as Relief Chair for the meeting. Councillors then heard questions from the public on topics ranging from policing to street lighting, and debated issues including pedestrianisation of Oxford Street, homelessness, and street cleaning. The council also received and noted the Annual Report of Policy and Scrutiny Activity in 2024/25 and the Annual Report of the Audit and Performance Committee 2024/25.
Pension Board - Monday 8th September, 2025 6.30 pm
The Westminster Council Pension Board convened to discuss the performance of the council's pension fund, updates from the London CIV (LCIV), and various Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) projects. The board noted the fund's performance, risks, and the updated funding level as of March 31, 2025, and also approved the delay of remediable service information delivery related to the McCloud judgement[^2] for certain members.

The Young People, Learning and Employment Policy and Scrutiny Committee met to discuss the upcoming work programme, review the draft Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Strategy for 2025-2030, and address the rising costs of providing care for children with complex needs. The committee approved the draft SEND strategy and made recommendations to address the financial demands on the council for children with SEND and complex needs.

The Westminster City Council meeting included a tribute to former Councillor Nikki Aiken, presentations from the public, questions to the cabinet, and debates on housing and private renters. Councillors voted to approve constitutional changes and amend the members' allowance scheme.
