Strategic Development Committee - Wednesday, 15th January, 2025 6.30 p.m.

The Strategic Development Committee of Tower Hamlets Council met on Wednesday 15 January 2025. The meeting began with a discussion of a previously deferred application, PA/24/00173, a large mixed-use redevelopment scheme at 2-6 Commercial Street, 98-105 Whitechapel High Street and the site of the Canon Barnett Primary School. The application, which was recommended for refusal by planning officers, was to demolish 101 Whitechapel High Street, 6 Commercial Street and the western annex of the Canon Barnett Primary School, partially demolish 102-105 Whitechapel High Street and 2-4 Commercial Street (retaining the façades of those buildings) and redevelop the site to provide an 18-storey office block with community space, relocation and expansion of the school playground, and a new school annex. After discussing the application, the Committee resolved to grant planning permission.

Strategic Development Committee - Monday, 25th November, 2024 6.30 p.m.

The committee made two decisions. It refused to grant permission for the proposed construction of student accommodation at 7 Brannan Street. It decided to grant permission to amend the operating hours of the Blackwall Way Yard Jetty. The committee also elected a new Chair for part of the meeting.

Strategic Development Committee - Wednesday, 13th November, 2024 6.30 p.m.

The Strategic Development Committee voted to grant planning permission subject to conditions to an application to change the use of two floors of One Canada Square from office space to educational space. The committee also voted to approve changes to a Section 106 agreement to allow construction of a previously stalled residential development at Leven Road. The committee voted to defer a planning application for a purpose built student accommodation building at 7 Brannon Street to allow a site visit to take place.

Strategic Development Committee - Wednesday, 5th April, 2023 5.30 p.m.

The Strategic Development Committee of Tower Hamlets Council met on Wednesday, 5 April 2023, to discuss several planning applications. The committee granted listed building consent for works at the former town hall at Morawie Place and Clove Crescent, and granted planning permission for a new development at 56-58 Marsh Wall. A decision on a development at land under the DLR bounded by Scholar Street and Aspen Way, and Prestige Way, was deferred.
