Housing and Inclusive Economy Scrutiny Committee - Wednesday, 11th December, 2024 7.00 pm
This meeting was scheduled to discuss a number of updates, new policies and proposals for the future of housing and community safety in Waltham Forest. The topics included updates to the Waltham Forest Housing Compact, discussions on the Housing Revenue Account (HRA) budget for 2025/26, a proposed policy on damp and mould, and a proposal for the acquisition of 53 new affordable homes for rent.
Cabinet - Tuesday, 3rd December, 2024 2.00 pm
The Cabinet made a number of decisions. The most significant of these was to proceed with the planned closure of the Markhouse Centre in Walthamstow. This was despite extensive opposition to the closure from service users, their families and trades unions, including through a petition to keep the centre open. The Cabinet also agreed to the continuation of the ‘All East’ integrated sexual health service in a joint arrangement with Newham, Tower Hamlets and Redbridge, and voted to adopt a new scheme for the Local Council Tax Support Scheme from 2025/26.
Climate Scrutiny Committee - Tuesday, 26th November, 2024 7.00 pm
The agenda for the meeting contained three main reports: the draft North London Joint Waste Strategy, a report exploring a mission-led approach to climate action in the borough, and a forward planning report.
Planning Committee - Tuesday, 5th November, 2024 7.00 pm
The meeting decided on four planning applications, granting permission for all of them. Three of the applications were for new residential developments, and in each case the Committee decided that a Section 106 agreement was needed in order to provide funds for the council to mitigate the impact of the developments, such as by improving local infrastructure or the provision of affordable housing. One application was for new sports facilities, and this was approved without the need for a Section 106 agreement.
