Crime, Environment and Transport Scrutiny Commission - Tuesday 15th October 2024 7.00 p.m.
This meeting of the Crime, Environment and Transport Scrutiny Commission was scheduled to review several reports and consider how they relate to the safety and security of the people of Newham. This included looking at the performance of its Community Safety Partnership and scrutinising the effectiveness of policing in the borough, as well as proposals for the adoption of a new model to better coordinate community safety enforcement. The meeting was also scheduled to consider the adoption of a new Youth Safety Strategy.
Council - Monday 16th September 2024 7.00 p.m.
The Council approved motions on the provision of public toilets in the borough, the transfer of planning powers from the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) to the Council, and a motion cracking down on knife crime. The Council also approved the allocation of seats on council committees, and the adoption of a revised complaints procedure. A Green motion on child poverty and a Green amendment to the London City Airport motion were both defeated.
Overview and Scrutiny Committee - Wednesday 24th July 2024 7.00 p.m.
The Overview and Scrutiny Committee discussed the Royal Victoria Docks Bridge, plans for the council’s budget, and a scrutiny report on the relationship between young Black men and the borough. The committee agreed to refer the bridge back to the cabinet for reconsideration, agreed the scrutiny report with amendments, and agreed to establish a number of scrutiny commissions.
Council - Monday 22nd July 2024 7.00 p.m.
The Council approved the delegation of planning powers from the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) to Newham Council, appointed a new Monitoring Officer and made appointments to several committees. The Council also debated a motion relating to comments about the Bangladeshi community made by the Labour Party leader, Sir Keir Starmer. An amendment to the motion, proposed by the Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz, was passed and the substantive motion, as amended, was agreed. A motion on child poverty was withdrawn. The Council also agreed a motion on the Newham dental crisis and a motion on temporary accommodation.

The Committee noted updates on the Council's progress on recruitment compliance, external audit, treasury management, counter-fraud, GDPR, tenancy audits, internal audit and savings delivery, making no decisions.
