Borough Council is the main policy making body of
the Authority chaired by the Mayor. The Council is made up of all
sixty-two Councillors.
The Council is responsible for the appointment of
members to its committees including the Overview and Scrutiny
Committee, the Standards Committee and the Planning Committee, and
most sub-committees. The Council agrees the Council Tax, approves
the policy and budget framework for Hounslow and also appoints to
formal positions such as the Mayor. In addition, the Council has a
ceremonial role such as honouring people by making them freemen of
the borough. The Council meets
approximately every month.
