The Appointments and Disciplinary Committee of Croydon Council met on Thursday, 16 October 2025, to discuss the appointment of a Director of Assets and Repairs. The meeting began in public session, where the minutes of the previous meeting were approved, before moving into a private session to conduct interviews for the Director of Assets and Repairs role.
Appointment to the post of Director of Assets and Repairs
The committee progressed to interview candidates for the significant role of Director of Assets and Repairs. This position is crucial for the council, overseeing housing assets, procurement, maintenance, and all council housing, as well as temporary accommodation. The postholder will also be pivotal in engaging with regulators for social housing and building safety. The salary package for this Grade 3 position was agreed at £129,900 - £135,064, which includes the national pay award of 3.2% effective from 1 April 2025. The committee resolved to undertake the selection and agree an appointment from the candidates detailed in the exempt Part B appendix of the report. Any appointment will be subject to the council's staff employment procedure rules.
The meeting commenced with the approval of the minutes from the previous Part A meeting held on 1 October 2025. Councillor Stuart King, Leader of the Opposition, noted that the minutes accurately reflected comments made regarding the appointment of the Chair of Audit. The committee then moved to Agenda Item 4, the appointment to the post of Director of Assets and Repairs, which was to be progressed through full panel interviews. As these interviews were scheduled to take place in private, the committee then moved to Agenda Item 5, the exclusion of the press and public. Councillor Lynne Hale, Vice Chair of the Committee and Cabinet Member for Homes, proposed that the press and public be excluded from the remainder of the meeting under the Local Government Act 1972, citing the likely disclosure of exempt information. This motion was seconded by Councillor Stuart King and agreed by the committee. The subsequent agenda items, including the final panel interviews for the Director of Assets and Repairs, were therefore held in private session (Part B).
