Extraordinary Meeting, Cabinet - Wednesday, 8 January 2025 2.30 pm
The Cabinet of Surrey Council voted to approve a response to the government's English Devolution White Paper[^2]. The response requests that Surrey be included in the government's accelerated devolution programme, and that local elections in May 2025 be postponed. Much of the meeting was spent discussing local government reorganisation, and the government's desire for two-tier authorities to be replaced with unitary authorities.
Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Economic Growth Decisions - Tuesday, 17 December 2024 12.00 pm
The Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Economic Growth Decisions meeting considered two petitions about road safety outside schools in South Nutfield and West Byfleet and a question about the £5 Million allocated in the council's 2025-2026 budget for improving the visual appearance of the highway network. The Cabinet Member agreed to consider reallocating the £500,000 contingency from this budget to climate change adaptation measures if it is not spent by the end of the 2025-2026 financial year. No decisions were made on the petitions.

The Council voted to approve the scheme for admitting students to schools in 2026. It also agreed to close the Bagshot Community Recycling Centre, and to extend the opening hours of the Camberley Community Recycling Centre. It voted to adopt the reports from the Cabinet meetings that took place on 29 October and 26 November 2024, approved a motion on climate change and net zero targets, and referred motions on inheritance tax, farming and the rural economy, and the preventative approach to children's services to the Cabinet. A motion to allow parents to attend SEND panels was also referred to the Cabinet.
