The Children and Young People Scrutiny Committee were scheduled to meet on 4 November 2025 to discuss safeguarding and support services for children and young people in Islington. The agenda included verbal updates on government special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) reform, and the consideration of the Islington Safeguarding Children Annual Report, the Start for Life Programme Update, and the Child Protection Annual Report. The committee was also scheduled to discuss its work programme.

The Islington Executive convened to discuss key issues, including property licensing, blue badge exemptions, and community infrastructure levy allocations. The Executive approved borough-wide additional licensing of HMOs and selective licensing in seven wards to improve the private rented sector, and approved a trial of changes to the Blue Badge traffic filter exemption policy. Also approved were procurement strategies for electrical testing, specialist adaptations for vulnerable residents, and Angel Square affordable workspace.

The Islington Council Executive met to discuss financial strategies, budget monitoring, and community initiatives, with a focus on sustainability and resident well-being, and agreed to increase building control charges from 5 October 2025. The Executive approved recommendations related to financial monitoring, capital budget adjustments and the implementation of Awaab's Law. They also designated the Poets Road Conservation Area and adopted the Climate Action Supplementary Planning Document and Retrofitting Handbook.

Islington Council met on 18 September 2025, and voted to establish a twinning agreement with Azaria, a Palestinian town in East Jerusalem, as a gesture of friendship and solidarity. Councillors also approved updates to the council's constitution and Members' Allowances Scheme, and discussed a quarterly monitoring report.

Children and Young People Scrutiny Committee - Tuesday, 16th September, 2025 7.00 pm

The Islington Council's Children and Young People Scrutiny Committee met to discuss the Youth Justice Plan, review the latest performance data, and consider school results. The committee noted the Youth Justice Plan, which aims to protect children from harm and reduce youth crime, and also reviewed the progress and challenges in key performance indicators, including school suspensions and persistent absenteeism. They also agreed to changes to the work programme, including moving the Bright Start update to November 2025 and scheduling witness evidence gathering for January 2026.
