Newham Council approved its annual budget for 2025/26 which included a council tax rise of 8.99%. Two amendments to the budget, one from the Newham Independent Group and one from the Green Group were rejected.
Call In, Cabinet - Monday 24th February 2025 2.00 p.m.
The meeting was to consider two decisions of the Cabinet made on 4 February 2025. Both decisions were referred back to Cabinet by the Overview and Scrutiny Committee, following the Council's Call-In procedure. The Cabinet voted to confirm the original decisions on both matters.
Cabinet - Tuesday 18th February 2025 10.30 a.m.
The Cabinet agreed to adopt the Asset Strategy, Final Budget for 2025/26 and reviewed the Building a Fairer Newham Corporate Delivery Plan. It also agreed to acquire 36 residential units at Boleyn Heights and to enter into new lease arrangements with Corebridge Institutional Investments (Europe) Limited, the Leaseholder for the Stratford Shopping Centre and Morgan House.

This meeting was for the Cabinet of Newham Council to consider a number of finance reports. It included updates on the Council's spending and income, how well it is doing at delivering savings, and the money it holds in reserve. It also considered reports on the financial positions of the Dedicated Schools Grant and the Housing Revenue Account.

The Cabinet approved the Executive Response to the recent Health and Adult Social Care Scrutiny Commission Report, Meeting Newham's Future Needs
. It also approved the People Powered Places Programme for 2025-27, allocating £200,000 of Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy funding to each of the eight community neighbourhoods, totalling £1.6 million. The Cabinet agreed to renew the Borough wide Public Space Protection Orders for Alcohol and Dog Control, subject to two amendments: limiting the number of dogs walked by one person to four and requiring dogs to be kept on a lead on the public highway.
