At a meeting of Islington Council, councillors discussed a range of issues including the impact of government cuts, the importance of social value in procurement, and support for private renters. Councillors voted to support motions on embedding social value and compliance in procurement, supporting private renters, and recognising the Communication Workers Union (CWU) and the local campaign to save the Upper Street Post Office. An original motion opposing cuts to Personal Independence Payment (PIP) was amended and then carried.

The Islington Council Executive met to discuss a range of reports, including the 2024/25 budget outturn, treasury management, corporate performance, children's services, digital strategy, housing partnerships, and access to health and care services. The Executive approved recommendations related to budget allocations, debt write-offs, contract variations, and the adoption of a new Digital and Data Strategy. They also approved the procurement strategy for an affordable workspace and supported continued collaboration on housing and homelessness.

The Audit and Risk Committee met to discuss the council's financial performance, audit plans, recycling strategies, use of investigatory powers, governance, and cybersecurity. The committee approved the draft 2024/25 Annual Governance Statement (AGS) and authorised the Corporate Director of Resources to make final amendments before publication.

At the Annual Council meeting, Councillor Jason Jackson was elected as Mayor of Islington, becoming the first black man to hold the post. Councillor Rosalyn Ngongoro was appointed as Deputy Mayor, and councillors were assigned to various committees and outside organisations. The council also formally appointed Paul Clarke as Interim Section 151 Officer[^1].

The Corporate Resources and Economy Scrutiny Committee met to discuss the annual review of the council's five missions, the scrutiny in Islington annual report, and the draft recommendations of a scrutiny review into progressive procurement. The committee agreed in principle the draft recommendations of the scrutiny review into progressive procurement, and will circulate a perfected draft for final comment. They also discussed the Q4 performance deep dive, and agreed to focus on areas where the RAG rating[^1] was amber or red.
