The Appointments & Disciplinary Committee of Croydon Council was scheduled to meet on Thursday 10 September 2026. The majority of the meeting was planned to be held in private session, with the press and public excluded.
Chief Executive Permanent Appointment
The committee was scheduled to consider the recruitment of a permanent Chief Executive. This followed a previous meeting on 21 July 2026 where it was noted that the decision was made to proceed with this recruitment. The report pack indicated that the advert for the position was likely to close on 4 September 2026. The agenda stated that the committee would be considering submitted applications for the role.
The report pack detailed that the salary package for the Chief Executive post was proposed to be a spot salary of £275,000 per year. This figure was stated to include and reflect an expected JNC chief executives' national pay award of 3.3% effective from 1 April 2026, subject to the conclusion of national negotiations. The agenda also noted that any appointment would be subject to the notification process outlined in section 3.3 of part 4J of the Council's Constitution, specifically the Staff Employment Procedure Rules.
Minutes of Previous Meeting
The committee was also scheduled to review and approve the minutes from the previous meeting held on 21 July 2026. These minutes were presented in two parts: Part A, which was publicly available, and Part B, which was to be discussed in private. The minutes from the 21 July meeting indicated that the committee had previously resolved to agree an expected day rate range of £1,200-£1,500 for the post of Interim Chief Executive, with remuneration potentially varying based on labour market forces. The minutes also confirmed that the committee had agreed to undertake the selection and appointment for the Interim Chief Executive from candidates detailed in an exempt appendix.
Exclusion of Press and Public
A motion was scheduled to be moved and seconded to exclude the press and public from the remainder of the meeting. This was proposed on the grounds that the subsequent items of business were likely to involve the disclosure of exempt information, as defined by paragraphs 1 and 2 of Part 1 of Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972. This would have meant that the discussion and decisions regarding the Chief Executive's permanent appointment would have taken place in a private session.
