Annual Meeting, Council - Wednesday, 14th May, 2025 7.00 p.m.
The Tower Hamlets Council meeting on 14 May 2025 included the election of a new speaker and deputy speaker, and decisions on the make-up of committees for the municipal year. Councillor Suluk Ahmed was elected as the new speaker, and Councillor Bellal Uddin as deputy speaker. The council also voted to adopt an independent chair for the Audit Committee and re-adopted the council's constitution.

The Overview and Security Committee met to discuss the Mayor's achievements and priorities, the Mayor's Waste Improvement Programme, and a progress update on actions to support local markets and traders. Councillors questioned the Mayor on topics ranging from hate crime to housing, and agreed to revisit the waste improvement programme in six months to assess progress on data collection and community engagement.
Development Committee - Thursday, 24th April, 2025 6.30 p.m.
The Development Committee of Tower Hamlets Council met to discuss three planning applications, ultimately granting permission for all three with attached conditions and obligations. The applications concerned the retrospective change of use for a multi-use games area at Halley Primary School, the redevelopment of the Stifford Community Centre site, and the reconfiguration of commercial space at 5 Yeo Street.
Licensing Sub Committee - Thursday, 10th April, 2025 2.00 p.m.
The Licensing Sub Committee met to consider a new premise licence for House Music and Entertainment, 20 Commercial Street and an application for a variation of a premises licence for The Sun Tavern, 441 Bethnal Green Road. The committee extended the decision deadline for several applications, including the one for House of Music.
