The meeting was scheduled to take place at Tottenham Town Hall.
Haringey Youth Council
The council was scheduled to consider a motion to reaffirm its support for the Haringey Youth Council, facilitate forthcoming borough-wide Youth Council Elections, and nominate a youth representative from Haringey to the Youth Parliament.
The motion stated that the council:
- Recognised that young people have a significant stake in the borough's future.
- Believed that young residents who represent their community must be heard by the council, especially on decisions that directly affect them.
- Resolved to genuinely listen to young people and the Youth Council, using them as a valuable resource for consultation.
The motion also outlined a number of actions that the council was scheduled to commit to, including:
- Engaging with the Youth Council, ensuring that senior decision-makers meet with them to discuss relevant matters.
- Providing references for Youth Council members for their role in the democratic and decision-making process.
- Supporting the Youth Council to widen their engagement and access regional or national initiatives.
- Ensuring the education of Youth Council members remains unaffected by participation in council-related initiatives.
- Doing its utmost to ensure that Haringey has a diverse Youth Council that represents the young people of the borough.
- Continuing to support and develop the skills of the Youth Council to ensure that the voices of young people in the community are being heard at every level.
- Committing to support councillors to engage with the Youth Council on a regular basis, culminating in an annual council-wide meeting with the Youth Council.
- Promoting the participation of young people in local democracy and ensuring that they are at the heart of decision making.
The council noted that the Youth Council election period was scheduled to start on 15 October, with the launch of manifestos for candidates running for the positions of Young Mayor, Deputy Young Mayor, Youth Council Chair, and Youth Council Deputy Chair. It was also noted that members of the Youth Council would represent Haringey on the London's Youth Assembly and UK Youth Parliament.
